flexible; mostly evenings, Sundays-Thursdays

Description

Broadview Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Children & Youth Group Support – Assist children’s advocates in age-specific groups, homework groups or art groups. 
  • Tutor Adult Women – Provide one-on-one help for women in school who are learning English, working on homework, reading and writing skills, GED preparation, and other academic subjects.
  • Childcare – Provide a safe, supervised space for children while mothers are attending onsite groups or meetings.
  • Front Desk Support – Help at the main desk with taking messages, getting supplies for clients, and monitoring the safety of the building.
  • Tutor for Children & Youth – Provide one-on-one help with homework, reading and writing skills, basic math skills and other academic subjects in an attentive environment. 

Volunteers commit to 1-2 hours a week, usually in the afternoons or evenings, Sunday through Thursday.

Qualifications

No specific skills or experience are needed, though we appreciate experience with children. Desired qualifications include:

  • Sensitivity to the concerns of low-income women and children in crisis or transition.
  • Ability to work with staff, volunteers and residents with a variety of racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, lifestyles, and sexual orientations.
  • Ability to be non-judgmental, resourceful, creative, consistent and flexible.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Desire to work with children of various ages and abilities.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
