SOLID GROUND'S
10th ANNUAL BUILDING COMMUNITY LUNCHEON:
Growing Community
to End Poverty
KEYNOTE SPEAKER:
Bryant Terry, eco chef, food justice activist & author
WHEN:
Friday May 21, 2010, 12-1:30 pm
WHERE:
Washington State Convention & Trade Center
800 Convention Place, 6th Floor, Rooms A & B
Seattle, WA 98101-2350
WHAT:
The Annual Luncheon is one of Solid Ground’s most important outreach and fundraising tools, raising critical support for our 27 programs working to end poverty in Seattle/King County. This is our 10th year of breaking bread, sharing passion for this work, and recommitting to making a more just and caring community. The Luncheon fertilizes our efforts to address the real needs of hard-working people. Guests at the Luncheon will be asked to make a gift of at least $150.
WHY:
Hunger is much deeper than the gnawing at a child’s stomach or the deep shadow of an empty pantry. Limited access to healthy food, poverty and racism have combined in a perfect storm that threatens the very survival of our neighborhoods with malnutrition, obesity and uncertainty about where the next meal is coming from. But change is growing…
On Friday May 21, 2010, we will come together 800 strong to examine hunger in our community and successful strategies to make healthy food more available, affordable and equitable. Growing Community to End Poverty will feature Solid Ground’s Marra Farm Giving Garden, Lettuce Link, Operation Frontline, Apple Corps and other aspects of our anti-hunger work, and unveil plans for a new Community Farm in the Rainier Valley.
