About RSVP
Solid Ground receives federal funding through AmeriCorps Seniors to operate our Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). One of the largest senior volunteer networks in the nation, RSVP is open to anyone 55 and older who wants to use their time, talents, and wisdom to make a difference.
Join us and over 300 volunteers across King County to address critical community needs by volunteering with one or more of our approximately 35 nonprofit partners. Your volunteer hours contribute to a national service impact: As an RSVP member, you are part of a group of volunteers who collectively give thousands of hours each year to strengthen their communities across the country. Your experience and skills can make a difference!

SEATTLE RSVP OPPORTUNITIES
CENTRAL SEATTLE
Central Seattle RSVP Opportunities
American Red Cross: Volunteers respond to disasters, speak to community groups and schools, help youth develop leadership skills, support local blood drives, provide care to service members, and much more. Volunteer opportunities are available 365 days a year to provide frontline services in your community. The training and support volunteers receive on a regular basis allows them to be successful in every Red Cross program.
Catholic Community Services (CCS): Volunteer Services at CCS welcomes volunteers to enable elders living on low incomes and adults with disabilities to remain independent in their own homes. You may help the same person each time or be listed as “on call” depending on your schedule and interests. You’ll receive training, mileage reimbursement, and insurance. Volunteer opportunities include giving rides to medical appointments, doing yardwork, and being a phone buddy, as well as delivering groceries, medications, and/or meals.
FareStart helps people experiencing poverty escape the cycle they are in by teaching them the work and life skills they need to succeed in the food service industry – and in life. Volunteer opportunities include: ⇒Supply drivers to deliver supplies to attendees of their remote culinary classes ⇒Write and decorate letters to be incorporated in FareStart meal kits which are sent to local homeless shelters, nonprofits, senior facilities, schools and more ⇒Make masks for FareStart’s essential kitchen staff! Volunteers will be reimbursed for materials.
Franciscan Hospice & Palliative Care (FHPC): Affirming every life, FHPC invites you to be part of a team of professionals and volunteers who meet the unique needs of hospice patients and their families. Volunteers provide both practical companionship and emotional support by making friendly phone calls to patients, enhancing FHPC’s compassionate care.
Full Life Care invites volunteers to support seniors, caregivers, and adults with disabilities in one-on-one or group settings at self-scheduled, flexible times. Join our ElderFriends or Care Teams programs to provide customized social, emotional, and practical support to an isolated senior or unpaid caregiver. Volunteer opportunities include: Friendly In-Home Visits, Hobby Sharing, Community Outing Companions, Walking Buddies, and Phone Buddies.
Jewish Family Services helps vulnerable individuals and families in the Puget Sound region achieve well-being, health and stability. Volunteer opportunities include: ⇒Food bank shifts ⇒Food bank home delivery ⇒Market and farm gleaning ⇒Virtual friendly visitor for older adults ⇒Remote data support ⇒Supporting resettled refugees.
Lifelong: Our volunteers – the heart and soul of the organization – have played a vital role helping provide quality care and services to people for more than 30 years. Lifelong’s food program, Chicken Soup Brigade, eases the lives of people living with or at risk of serious illnesses. Volunteer opportunities include repacking food donations, prepping food, packaging meals, delivering nutritious food, and assembling health care kits.
Reading Partners program and volunteers are proven to help students improve their reading skills. We offer a unique opportunity for volunteers to support and encourage students on their literacy learning journeys. We provide training, onsite support, and an easy-to-use curriculum to set volunteers up for success.

Whether you’re experienced in events support or want to learn more, this the opportunity for you! You’ll support the Resource Development team with event day responsibilities. Sound Generations is a nonprofit serving aging adults and their loved ones in King County since 1967. Our staff and over 2,100 volunteers are dedicated to ensuring older adults can live ample and fulfilled lives in a community that respects and affirms the aging journey. Requests include assisting with events, social media ambassadors, phone-a-friend connectors, and digital card making.
United Way of King County’s Tax Prep: Tax season can be stressful, especially for folks who are new to the US tax code or just entering the workforce, and those with financial or technological barriers to filing. UWKC seeks volunteers to prepare taxes (we train you!) for the next January through April tax season, or to welcome people to our tax sites. Volunteer training starts in October.

Greenwood Senior Center is an inclusive community that provides social, physical, and educational activities focused on the needs of older adults. We work to fight isolation, build camaraderie, and enrich each other’s lives. Available volunteer opportunities include serving hot meals and assisting with special events and classes. We welcome all abilities and interests!
North Helpline Emergency Services & Food Bank keeps food on the table and a roof overhead for our neighbors, helping meet basic needs to affirm human dignity. We’re seeking fitness class instructors as well as nutrition volunteers for our Community Dining program and Health and Wellness Center. Training and certification provided.
North Seattle College (NSC): From Accounting for Small Business to Zumba, the Continuing Education program at NSC provides a wide array of non-credit classes for everyone in the community age 17 and older with a desire to learn and pursue personal enrichment. Geared toward lifelong learners, our reasonably priced, quality courses are led by instructors who teach their passion and profession. You’ll find our personal enrichment and professional development courses conveniently offered on both weekdays and weekends, daytime and evenings, and one-time workshops or multiple-sessions. Currently, NSC is seeking volunteers to serve as Art Gallery Attendants from July 17 to August 18 for a few hours every Tuesday through Friday.
Power of One: The Power of One Volunteer Program assists Shoreline Public Schools in achieving excellent education for all students. Power of One works to match people from the community with volunteer opportunities in the Shoreline school district. Volunteers bring their time, talents and expertise to classrooms and school libraries from preschool to high school.
Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA): SCCA is seeking Retail Volunteers at their Gift Shop, Shine. In this role, you will provide excellent customer service for patients, families, staff, and community members who enter Shine. You will assist with purchases, answer phones, and process sales transactions.

- Magnuson Park Community Food Pantry: We are seeking volunteers to help provide food for the Sand Point Housing community. Volunteers can assist with unloading food deliveries, distributing food, keeping stations well stocked, welcoming patrons, providing information and direction, and assisting staff with the breakdown and cleanup of the food bank at the end of the afternoon.

Youth Tutoring Program volunteer tutors guide and inspire 6- to 18-year-old youth scholars who live in low-income and public housing. We seek after-school tutors interested in helping guide youth on their educational journeys. We ask a minimum of one hour/week of in-person tutoring at one of our five centers.

American Cancer Society – West Seattle Discovery Shop: Join the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop and help us fund cancer research and free patient services! The Discovery Shop is the upscale resale shop for the American Cancer Society where the community can donate their gently used clothing and household items. Each day they receive 25,000 pounds of donated food, which is sorted by volunteers and then distributed to 275 food banks and meal programs in western Washington. They have opportunities to fit every schedule. Your time and energy will make a difference!

Kokoro Kai Adult Day Center provides health and related services in a traditional atmosphere to primarily Japanese American families in the Pacific Northwest. Like to talk? Play games? Asian seniors would appreciate your warmth and company. If you speak any Asian languages, it’s a plus, but not a requirement. Whenever you have the time to assist with activities or provide companionship at our Seattle facilities, your help will be greatly appreciated. - Marra Farm: Work at our Giving Garden at Marra Farm by building soil, preparing vegetable beds, planting vegetable starts and seeds, weeding by hand, composting, watering, harvesting, washing produce, and distributing produce to the community food bank and other locations. Many of our volunteers start with limited or no gardening knowledge and learn as they go, so we welcome you with whatever level of gardening skills and knowledge you bring. Groups and kids welcome!

Washington DECA serves 13,000 high school students to prepare them to become innovative leaders and entrepreneurs who make a positive social and global impact. We’re currently looking for volunteer judges to evaluate both written and oral business competitions. Students value your feedback as they prepare for the International DECA competition.

Family Law CASA advocates for local children in high-risk custody cases so they have a chance for a safe, secure home life, significantly reducing the risk of abuse and neglect. Volunteers, who must be over 21 and commit to at least one case assignment (6 – 12 months; 10/12 hours/month), gather information about a child’s life and present findings to the King County Superior Court. There is ample training before each assignment and support for volunteer advocates for the full duration of a case.

Rebuilding Together Seattle (RTS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that ensures housing stability for low-income homeowners by providing safety and accessibility improvements free of charge. RTS offers volunteers the opportunity to give back to their neighbors by completing smaller repairs or leading larger groups of volunteers in larger projects.

- Knit-It-Alls (KIA): Calling all knitters! KIA Volunteers knit, crochet, and sew throughout the year to create warm winter clothing for low-income families and/or people experiencing homelessness in Seattle/King County. Volunteer opportunities include: ⇒Knitting, crocheting, or sewing a range of warm items like hats, scarves, mittens, as well as baby and children clothing, all from the comfort of home ⇒Counting, tagging, and sorting KIA donations at our Wallingford office.

Hopelink needs your help to ensure all members of our community have access to food! Volunteer in Bellevue, Carnation, Kirkland, Redmond, or Shoreline. Opportunities take place Mondays through Fridays during regular business hours and include check-in (computer skills required), customer service (must be able to lift up to 15 pounds), and restocking (must be able to lift 35+ pounds).

Mount Si Senior Center: Over 1,200 seniors a year rely on Mt. Si Senior Center for fitness classes, social programs, arts and educational workshops, recreational activities, and lunches. Volunteers help ensure seniors can safely age in place. We seek lunch program help, afternoon front desk support, and workshop leaders.

United Way of King County’s Tax Prep: Tax season can be stressful, especially for folks who are new to the US tax code or just entering the workforce, and those with financial or technological barriers to filing. UWKC seeks volunteers to prepare taxes (we train you!) for the next January through April tax season, or to welcome people to our tax sites. Volunteer training starts in October.
Washington DECA serves 13,000 high school students to prepare them to become innovative leaders and entrepreneurs who make a positive social and global impact. We’re currently looking for volunteer judges to evaluate both written and oral business competitions. Students value your feedback as they prepare for the International DECA competition.

South King County RSVP Opportunities
American Red Cross: Volunteers respond to disasters, speak to community groups and schools, help youth develop leadership skills, support local blood drives, provide care to service members, and much more. Volunteer opportunities are available 365 days a year to provide frontline services in your community. The training and support volunteers receive on a regular basis allows them to be successful in every Red Cross program.
Auburn Community Food Bank: Lend a hand and help others access food. The Auburn Food Bank is a volunteer-directed organization that provides food, referrals and emergency assistance to those in need. Volunteer opportunities include: ⇒Counter person ⇒Door person ⇒Bagger ⇒Vegetable/Bread attendant ⇒Van helper (assist with loading and unloading food donations) ⇒Administrative assistant/Bookkeeper (provide office support by creating and maintaining specialized reports, records and files required in connection with department work processes; interact with staff, volunteers, and the public; support all areas of daily operations; and monitor administrative projects as directed).
Catholic Community Services (CCS): Volunteer Services at CCS welcomes volunteers to enable elders living on low incomes and adults with disabilities to remain independent in their own homes. You may help the same person each time or be listed as “on call” depending on your schedule and interests. You’ll receive training, mileage reimbursement, and insurance. Volunteer opportunities include giving rides to medical appointments, doing yardwork, and being a phone buddy, as well as delivering groceries, medications, and/or meals.
City of Renton: Serve as a volunteer at the Information Desk at Renton City Hall. Volunteering at the lobby desk provides a great opportunity to learn more about municipal government, city operations and community issues in a relaxed environment with lots of people contact while providing a valuable service to the city and the community. Volunteer opportunities include: ⇒Answer phones ⇒Greet and direct visitors to City Hall offices and meetings ⇒Provide information and referral services to the public ⇒Assist with small projects.
Communities in Schools of Greater King County believes in surrounding students with a community of support, as well as the tools for success, including basic needs such as food access and stability. We’re currently seeking volunteers to pick up weekend food bags each week in Newcastle, WA and deliver them to schools in both Renton and Tukwila to be distributed to students.
Franciscan Hospice & Palliative Care (FHPC): Affirming every life, FHPC invites you to be part of a team of professionals and volunteers who meet the unique needs of hospice patients and their families. Volunteers provide both practical companionship and emotional support by making friendly phone calls to patients, enhancing FHPC’s compassionate care.
Jewish Family Service: Family mentor volunteers are needed in Kent! Help newly arrived refugees become acquainted with their surrounding communities and face the challenges of resettling in a new country. Volunteers will meet with an individual or family for an average of 2-3 hours per week for three months to help them navigate the crucial facets of American life including transportation, banking, ESL skills, job search process, and health and childcare information.
Multi-Service Center: We strengthen communities throughout South King County by addressing the causes and barriers of poverty and homelessness with comprehensive and holistic services that help to lift people from crisis and vulnerability to self-sufficiency and stability. Port of Seattle SEA Volunteers: If you love being a part of the airport environment, join our volunteer team to help make every passenger’s journey a pleasant one. SEA Volunteers provide vital support at the airport, assisting passengers with navigation and ensuring a seamless travel experience. By guiding them through the terminals and offering knowledgeable assistance, you’ll enhance the efficiency and friendliness of the airport environment.
Reading Partners program and volunteers are proven to help students improve their reading skills. We offer a unique opportunity for volunteers to support and encourage students on their literacy learning journeys. We provide training, onsite support, and an easy-to-use curriculum to set volunteers up for success.
Solid Ground: Sponsor of RSVP in King County, Solid Ground works to end poverty and undo racism and other oppressions that are root causes of poverty by providing housing, food, transportation and other services to those in need across King County. Volunteer positions are open in many of the programs we administer.
- Community Food Education’s Adult & Family Education program at Solid Ground teaches people how to prepare healthy and delicious meals on a limited budget. We need Class Assistants for 3- to 6-week series and one-time classes at rotating locations. Volunteer alongside staff to support fun, lively, and informative classes. Work with participants on educational activities and help them prepare a shared meal. Training is provided.
- RSVP Ambassador: RSVP Ambassadors help increase the visibility of RSVP in King County to support our mission to encourage volunteerism for people 55 and older. Ambassadors will work to cultivate positive relationships with community agencies and potential volunteers. Volunteer opportunities include: ⇒Serving on committees or planning groups with relevant community organizations ⇒Speaking on behalf of RSVP at Recognitions, Volunteer Meetings, tabling at community events ⇒and more!
Sound Generations is a nonprofit serving aging adults and their loved ones in King County since 1967. Our staff and over 2,100 volunteers are dedicated to ensuring older adults can live ample and fulfilled lives in a community that respects and affirms the aging journey. Tukwila Pantry: Volunteers are needed to assist the food bank with distribution day preparation and on distribution days.
