One program you don’t want to miss out on is Sun Bucks, which provides parents with $120 for groceries per eligible child. If your kids weren’t automatically enrolled, you have until this Saturday, August 31, to apply. Read on to learn all about that, plus free vaccines, resource fairs, hiring events, and more!

DEADLINE REMINDER: EXTRA CASH FOR GROCERIES
WHEN: Applications due by Saturday, August 31, 2024.
WHAT: Thousands of Washington state parents have received an extra $120 for groceries this summer through the Sun Bucks program, but there are still some parents whose children may be eligible but have not yet received theirs. If your child was not automatically enrolled in the program, you have until Saturday, August 31, 2024 to apply.

FREE ORCA CARDS FOR SEATTLE PRESCHOOL FAMILIES
WHAT: Families enrolled in the Seattle Preschool Program (SPP) will now receive a free ORCA card to help them meet their transportation needs. The cards offer unlimited use on public transit through August 31, 2025.
Families enrolled in SPP don’t need to take any additional action; the ORCA cards will be mailed directly to eligible households. To learn more about SPP or apply, go to Seattle Early Learning and Child Care Programs.

FREE VACCINES FOR KIDS
WHERE: Various locations in South King County
WHAT: Under Washington state immunizations requirements, children must receive certain vaccinations before they can start school, childcare, or other early learning programs. To find free vaccinations events near you, check Public Health – Seattle & King County’s Where to Get Vaccinated in King County webpage.
These events are intended for children ages 0-18 living in south King County, as well as children who are uninsured, are experiencing homelessness, or who recently moved to the U.S. and do not have a healthcare provider.

WHITE CENTER YOUTH JOBS & RESOURCE FAIR
WHEN: October 16, 2024, 3pm-5pm
WHERE: Greenbridge Learning Center, 9720 8th Ave, Seattle, WA 98106
WHAT: The 3rd Annual Youth Jobs and Resources Fair is FREE and open to all youth ages 16 – 24 who are looking to pursue careers or explore educational pathways toward success. Youth will get to meet with colleges, employers, and community nonprofit organizations. They will have the opportunity to ask question and have access to various resources and program trainings.
Attendees are asked to dress professionally (semi-formal), bring their resume copies (if any), and a good attitude! Meet with talent recruiters and human resource associates to learn about various job and educational opportunities.

LEARN YOUR RIGHTS AS A RENTER
WHEN: Wednesday, August 28, 2024, 5-6:30pm
WHERE: Online. Register for link.
WHAT: Are you a tenant dealing with an infestation in your rental house or apartment? In this workshop, tenant counselors will let you know:
- How to deal with different types of infestations.
- How to report problems to your landlord.
- What to do if your landlord fails to meet their responsibility to fix the situation.
A visiting attorney from the Tenant Law Center will also be on hand to help with answering questions. If you’re currently living in King County and being threatened with eviction, contact the Housing Justice Project for legal assistance at 206.267.7069 or hjpstaff@kcba.org.

WHAT: A variety of organizations are holding events this week to help connect people with basic needs and services, including things like cell phones, bus passes, vaccines, health care screenings, employment resources, legal assistance, and more!
Shoreline community resource fair

FREE MEDICAL CARE FOR PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS
WHEN: Various times and locations listed below
WHAT: King County’s Mobile Medical Program provides walk-in care for people who are living homeless (or were recently homeless) only. Please try to arrive at least one hour before the scheduled end time for the clinic. On rare occasions the clinic will close earlier than the scheduled time. Call the Mobile Van nursing lines if you would like to confirm the clinic end time for a particular day.
Please note: Sites and available services are subject to change due to Mobile Medical’s involvement in the COVID-19 response. Please check King County’s Mobile Medical Care webpage for the latest information, including upcoming dates in September.

FREE & LOW-COST VETERINARY CARE
WHEN: Various dates and times. See below.
WHAT: Seattle Veterinary Outreach, Washington Health Outreach, and Doney Coe Pet Clinic provide veterinary care for free or at a reduced cost to the pets of people experiencing homelessness and or living on low incomes.
Veterinary care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Pet owners are encouraged to arrive early to secure a place in line.
Services are reserved for those experiencing homelessness or living with a low income, which is verified at clinics. Pet owners should bring their SNAP, EBT, WIC, SSI, or TANF cards. Alternatively, a letter confirming that the pet owner is living in subsidized housing or receiving housing vouchers is also acceptable.

FREE RESTAURANT MEALS FOR YOUTH
WHEN: Through September 1, 2024
WHERE: Designated restaurants in Seattle, including Just Like Home Jamaican Kitchen, Other Coast Cafe, and Taco Street.
WHAT: As part of the All-Youth-Can-Eat program, several Seattle restaurants are providing free meals for kids 18 and under and college students aged 18-24 with college ID during designated hours. Interested youth must complete the All-Youth-Can-Eat Participation Survey before placing each order.

FREE BANKING & FINANCIAL CAREER TRAINING
WHEN: Apply by September 2, 2024. Eight-week course held September 16 – November 8, 2024.
WHAT: Free industry-specific job training for job seekers of all genders who are low income. Strong customer service and sales focus, followed by direct job placement into positions at partner banks and credit unions. Class meets online and in person three days a week — Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays — from 8:30am to 2pm.
Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma/GED and be able to pass a background check.

FREE AIR CONDITIONING UNITS
WHAT: You may be able to get a free A/C unit this summer thanks to Byrd Barr’s Energy Assistance programs. To qualify, you must first be approved for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
You may also be able to get help paying energy bills, refilling oil tanks, and repairing or replacing furnaces.
