UTILITY DISCOUNT PROGRAM EXPANDS TO ADD SECTION 8 CUSTOMERS
SHA and Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) (Formally Section 8) tenants will be automatically enrolled in the Seattle Utility Discount Program starting August 1, 2016. SHA and HCV tenants will not need to do anything to be enrolled to receive the discount as this is an automatic process.
After initial notification, tenants may choose not to participate by returning a “No Thank You” form sent with the letter or by contacting Seattle City Light. As long as the tenant continues to live in the same housing, and their declared income with Seattle Housing Authority is within the income requirements for the Utility Discount Program, they will continue to be enrolled on the program.

WASHINGTON WOMEN IN NEED (WWIN) GRANT PROGRAMS
Washington Women in Need makes financial grants to low-income women in Washington state who are ready for transformational change in two categories: Education and Health Care. We believe in the power of determined women to transform their lives and the course of their families’ lives for generations to come. We address a deep need in society, providing women a hand up to improve their futures, in turn, strengthening their families and our societies as a whole.
To apply for a grant, an applicant must meet all eligibility criteria and have financial need.
EDUCATION GRANTS
Education Grants remove a financial barrier to low-income women seeking higher education. Grantees receive a one-time Grant to pay for tuition, mandatory fees, and required books and supplies at the approved, accredited Washington college or university of their choice.
WWIN has two Education Grant cycles: one in the late spring/early summer (to fund students beginning in the fall term), and one in the fall (to fund students beginning in the winter/spring terms).
HEALTH CARE GAP FUND GRANTS
Health Care Gap Fund Grants cover the costs of the following services for women who have Apple Health or Medicare insurance coverage. Grantees receive a one-time grant to use with the health care provider of their choice for:
- Dental crowns and bridges, and root canals on permanent bicuspid and molar teeth
- Glasses and contact lenses
- In some cases, health care provider access issues, and for reasons such as availability, geography, or language barriers (including for mental health care provider access issues)
For a Health Care Gap Fund Grant, an applicant must be in need of one or more of the specified services listed above. WWIN accepts applications for Health Care Gap Fund Grants on a rolling basis and selects new grantees monthly.
