Solid Ground staff work tirelessly to build community to end poverty — but we couldn’t make nearly the impact that we do without the contributions of dedicated, hard-working volunteers! It’s National Volunteer Week, and we’re taking the time to send our deepest appreciation to our wonderful volunteers!
As the need for Solid Ground’s services continues to grow, so does the commitment of community members to create collaborative solutions. It is only with the support of amazing volunteers that we can rise to meet the challenge! With the help of our volunteers, Solid Ground is able to touch the lives of more than 60,000 people a year!
Our volunteers’ passion and energy generates more than 15,000 life-changing volunteer hours a year! Whether they tutor youth at our Broadview shelter, garden at our Giving Gardens, teach cooking and nutrition classes, support fundraising events, or help out with crucial office tasks, volunteers help transform our region into a more vibrant and equitable community for all.
Why we need volunteers
A variety of Solid Ground employees shared just a few reasons why volunteers are important to an organization like ours.
“We need volunteers because they help us to serve our community in the most meaningful and efficient capacity. We would not be able to reach as many people as we do without volunteers sharing their time, energy, and skills with us. We have come so far, but we can never have enough volunteers!”
~Vanessa, HQ Office Support
“Our volunteers are fabulous! Their dedication and creativity allows us to find new ways to help others more efficiently through their unique experiences.”
~Kristin, Children’s Services Manager
“With a tiny Communications Department of two staff, we rely on our volunteer interns to help us lift up the voices of our program participants and partners, and share stories highlighting the impact of our work.”
~Liz, Communications Specialist
“Volunteers are an important part of the Solid Ground community. They help build support for people experiencing poverty by growing food, teaching nutrition education, tutoring kids and so much more! We couldn’t do what we do without them. We are so thankful for their support.”
~Jennifer, Volunteer Services Manager
Get involved
If you are interested in getting involved, head to our Volunteer page and discover the various opportunities we have to engage with the community! We always welcome more volunteers to help build community and raise voices to help advocate for those that can’t. Solid Ground’s mission is to end poverty and undo racism and other oppressions that are root causes of poverty. When you sign up to volunteer with Solid Ground, you are a part of moving that mission forward and creating a community free of injustice, oppression, and inequity.
