Our neighbors in Tacoma are picking fruit trees too! Gleaners galore, we love to see this work continue to grow. Here’s a blurb from Pierce County Gleaning Project:
“The Pierce County Gleaning Project seeks to reduce hunger by increasing access to fresh fruits and vegetables for our neighbors in need. With the help of our volunteer network, we collect surplus produce from farms, orchards, residential gardens, and fruit trees for distribution to food banks and hot meal sites. This community-based effort is a response to the dramatic increase in the number of people seeking food assistance in our county and the amount of food wasted that could help solve hunger and poverty issues”

Hi Deb, this link is from an old Solid Ground blog post from 2010. We do not coordinate this project, so I recommend visiting their website to contact someone from the Pierce County Gleaning Project directly: http://piercecd.org/190/Urban-Agriculture
