Solid Ground’s Community Food Education (CFE) program is teaching virtual and in-person classes, and we need volunteers like you to make it happen!
Cooking Matters classes combine cooking, nutrition, food justice, menu planning, budgeting, kitchen safety, and sanitation to community members experiencing food insecurity.
Each Cooking Matters class is led by a staff Community Food Educator and three volunteers (Nutrition Facilitator, Cooking Facilitator, and Class Assistant) who work together to facilitate fun, interactive, and informative classes for participants. The series includes educational activities, conversations about food justice, and cooking demonstrations.
Classes are held in-person or virtually via Zoom in partnership with community organizations like housing sites, health clinics, schools, and other service-providing agencies throughout Seattle. They meet once per week for six weeks. Each week includes a two-hour class session with a space to cook together.
Join us at our next Cooking Matters Volunteer Training to learn more!
Trainings are hosted quarterly, and we ask all volunteers interested in Cooking Matters classes to attend this required training to learn more!
Please note: Before attending this training, all volunteers must have already attended (or be signed up for) a Solid Ground Volunteer Orientation OR be a current Cooking Matters Satellite Partner.
