SEATTLE SUMMER CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS
WHEN: Apply NOW for scholarships. Summer camp registration starts Tuesday, April 16, 2024.
WHERE: Sites across Seattle
WHAT: The 2024 summer camp brochure from Seattle Parks & Recreation is now available. You can choose from a wide range of summer activities, from preschool and school age care camps, to nature camps, and camps for youth with disabilities.
Registration for 2024 summer camps starts Tuesday, April 16, but you should apply for a scholarship ASAP if you want to get help paying registration fees. You must be approved for the scholarship before registering, and it can take two to three weeks to process scholarship applications.

GETTING YOUTH READY FOR SUMMER

NEW SHELTER FOR VETERANS IN SEATTLE
WHERE: Lower Queen Anne in Seattle
WHAT: A brand-new shelter for homeless veterans opened in Seattle earlier this month. The Blaine Veterans Center Enhanced Shelter will provide a safe place to sleep, on-site support services, and case management to meet the specific needs of veterans experiencing homelessness in King County
The Blaine center offers:
- 36 shelter beds for male-identifying Veterans ages 18 and older
- 24-hour access to a safe space and supports
- 3 meals a day, laundry services, showers/hygiene, bus tickets for appointments, limited personal storage, kitchenette, computer & TV
- On-site housing navigation support, case management, and skill development opportunities

WIC NOW ACCEPTED AT WALGREENS
WHAT: If you are enrolled in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program, you can now use your WIC benefits to buy food and formula at any of the 125 Walgreens locations in Washington state. WIC is for people who are pregnant, recently pregnant, or breast and chest feeding. It is also for infants and children under age 5.

SEATTLE CAREER AND RESOURCE FAIR

WHAT: Need help completing your FAFSA/WASFA student aid applications? Join us online for to learn more about the application process. Join the “Statewide Financial Aid Completion Night” webinar to get guidance on completing and submitting the 2024–25 FAFSA or WASFA form.
The FAFSA/WASFA is an important step for high school seniors to receive financial aid for college. Students eligible for the Seattle Promise scholarship must complete their FAFSA/WASFA by April 30, 2024.

DEADLINE REMINDER: CAREER & TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIPS
WHEN: Application for fall term due by Wednesday, April 10, 2024, 9pm.
WHAT: The Career & Technical Scholarship (CTS) provides up to $1,500 per quarter for apprenticeship, certificate, or associate degree programs in STEM, health care, and the trades. Scholarships can cover costs beyond tuition, such as housing, transportation, food, and more. There are over 1,000 eligible programs at all 34 of the state’s community and technical colleges.
The application will take about 60 to 90 minutes to complete, and no references or transcripts are needed to apply. Applicants should also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) by the deadline.

FREE MEDICAL CARE FOR PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS
WHEN: Various times and locations listed below
WHAT: King County’s Mobile Medical Program provides walk-in care for people who are living homeless (or were recently homeless) only. Please try to arrive at least one hour before the scheduled end time for the clinic. On rare occasions the clinic will close earlier than the scheduled time. Call the Mobile Van nursing lines if you would like to confirm the clinic end time for a particular day.

FREE & LOW-COST VETERINARY CARE

WHAT: Seattle Veterinary Outreach, Washington Health Outreach, and Doney Coe Pet Clinic provide veterinary care for free or at a reduced cost to the pets of people experiencing homelessness and or living on low incomes.
Veterinary care is provided on a first-come, first-served service. Pet owners are encouraged to arrive early to secure a place in line.
Services are reserved for those experiencing homelessness or living with a low income, which is verified at clinics. Pet owners should bring their SNAP, EBT, WIC, SSI, or TANF cards. Alternatively, a letter confirming that the pet owner is living in subsidized housing or receiving housing vouchers is also acceptable.

WHAT: Do you need repairs in your rental and don’t know if you or your landlord are responsible for fixing them? What exactly are your rights as a tenant – and what are the landlord’s duties? Learn how to request repairs, and find out what the landlord’s duties are under the Washington State Residential Landlord-Tenant Act.

PAID PARKS DEPARTMENT INTERNSHIPS
WHEN: Applications due by April 21, 2024. Internship dates July 8 – August 15.
WHAT: Love parks and being outdoors? King County Parks Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is a PAID summer internship program for teens interested in jobs in parks and the environment. Interns work 22 hours per week and meet daily Monday through Wednesday at Bethaday Community Learning Center in White Center, and virtually via zoom on Thursdays. Internships are open to youth living in King County and entering grades 10-12. No resume or cover letter needed to apply.

MAXIMIZE YOUR REFUND: FREE HELP WITH TAXES
WHEN: Walk-in help available through Sunday, April 21, 2024. Virtual Tax Assistance available online starting Thursday, February 1, 2024.
WHERE: Locations across King County. Check out this map of United Way In-Person Tax Sites and this list of Seattle Public Library Branches offering Free In-person Tax Help.
WHAT: Get free help filing your taxes from the United Way of King County (UWKC) and AARP so you can get back more of your hard-earned money. Their IRS-certified volunteers can help you understand your tax situation, plus take advantage of credits like the Earned Income Credit, Child Tax Credit, and the Working Families Tax Credit to maximize your refund.
- UWKC: If you make less than $80,000 a year (or less than $96,000 for non-single filers), UWKC’s volunteers are ready to meet with you in person at locations across King County, including libraries, community centers, and food banks. Appointments are not required, but please aim to arrive no later than 45 minutes before closing time. Virtual Tax Assistance available starting February 1, 2024.
- AARP: The Seattle Public Library is collaborating with AARP to offer free tax assistance at nine branches through Tax Day, Monday, April 15, 2024. Hours vary and appointments are preferred in some locations.

CHANGES TO AFFORDABLE INTERNET PROGRAM
WHEN: The Affordable Connectivity Program is currently set to wind down in May.
WHAT: More than 77,000 households in King County and 344,000 in Washington State could see their internet bills go up in May when the federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) runs out of money.
Households have options for continuing service and switching plans, but must communicate with their internet provider to choose and confirm a continuing internet service plan and costs when the discount ends…or to ensure they end their service plan with a company if they want to.
