This year, Solid Ground celebrates a special milestone: 50 years of progress toward solving poverty! To help honor our past as well as our ongoing work, we’re unveiling this 50th Anniversary logo to be featured throughout 2024.
The unique design incorporates several elements of our history, including a representation of the Fremont neighborhood’s ‘Waiting for the Interurban’ sculpture, which served as the primary logo of Solid Ground’s forebear, Fremont Public Association (FPA).
Iconography embedded in the image also reflects programs that have been at the core of our work and mission to solve poverty and undo racism and other oppressions that are root causes of poverty. These include efforts to prevent homelessness and provide housing for people who need it, increase access to food and nutrition throughout the Seattle-King County community, and organize and advocate for systemic changes in policy to make our region and our state more equitable for all.
“The energy and joy that Solid Ground needed to convey for their 50th Anniversary was also achieved by using radial balance: support, action, and dedication reaching outward from a central message.”
~Mx. Jessica Miller, graphic artist
The mark was designed by local graphic artist Mx. Jessica Miller, of Private/Public, LLC, who describes their concept this way:
“I was inspired by the WPA [Works Progress Administration] Poster Division, which offered nostalgic inspiration for using simplified shapes, strong colors, and maintaining very different elements in a cohesive style. The energy and joy that Solid Ground needed to convey for their 50th Anniversary was also achieved by using radial balance: support, action, and dedication reaching outward from a central message.”
In honor of this milestone year and throughout 2024, Solid Ground will feature our program participants, partners, leaders, and changemakers who’ve helped improve the lives of thousands of our neighbors. We’ll also share our transformative vision for the future!
Our first feature, 50 Years of Freedom from Poverty through Action, focuses on State Rep. Frank Chopp, former FPA Executive Director.
The highpoint of our celebrations will be a 50th Anniversary Gala on Wednesday, May 8 at 5:30pm at SUMMIT (900 Pine St, Seattle, WA 98101) – the NEW, separate venue of the Seattle Convention Center. The Gala will feature stories from a few of the more than one million people we’ve supported on their journeys to overcome poverty. And we’ll celebrate our efforts to cultivate a lush landscape of social services and social change organizations and community leaders who’ve impacted millions more.
“Solid Ground’s history runs deep. We are proud to honor our 50 years of service and partnership. We look forward to celebrating in person with our friends, supporters, and community.”
