We’re thrilled that Shawn Applin, Executive Chef at Outlier, will return as chef for Solid Ground’s 2nd Annual Farm to Table Dinner on Saturday, September 15, 6:30pm, at Marra Farm.

Shawn got an early education in the art of food-based hospitality while watching his grandmother prepare Sunday supper for the family each week in upstate New York. His delectable résumé includes a degree from New York’s Culinary Institute of America, and positions at Fog City Diner and Scala’s Bistro in San Francisco.
Here in Seattle, he’s worked at Flying Fish with James Beard Award-winning Chef Christine Keff and at McCaw Hall.
Shawn first connected with Solid Ground through a friend and found his values align with our mission. “I think two of the biggest social injustices in Seattle are homelessness and racial indifference,” he explains. “I want to support an organization that works tirelessly to battle those types of issues.”
He’s impressed by “the amount of pounds of nutritious produce” Solid Ground grows at Marra Farm for nearby food banks and nutrition programs. “It’s a great challenge in any urban environment to provide the resources and education needed to supply proper nutrition to any demographic, but especially those experiencing poverty.”
He says last year’s Farm to Table Dinner “was one of our first events where I was able to showcase our new food at Outlier. It was a fun night, and I’m happy I was asked to do it again.”
And we’re happy Shawn accepted the invitation! Our stomachs growl in anticipation…
