Read Day of Service 2024 Recap
Last summer, 150+ Solid Ground community members rolled up their sleeves for our Day of Service Celebrating 50 Years! We hope you’ll join us next Friday, August 22, 2025 as we gather across multiple Seattle volunteer sites to plant and tend to garden beds, beautify parks, clean up our Solid Ground Transportation’s ACCESS bus fleet, and more! We’ll welcome you with coffee and pastries to fuel our collective work and provide water and snacks to sustain us through the morning. Scroll down for more information on our sites’ significance.

2024 PROJECTS & SITES
Magnuson Park Cleanup
Solid Ground houses 400+ people at our Sand Point Housing campus in Magnuson Park. The campus provides permanent supportive housing, affordable permanent housing, and onsite support services for formerly homeless families and individuals. Since 1999, several thousand people have stayed at Sand Point Housing in their journeys from homelessness to stability. Folks who sign up for this project will meet at a location in the Sand Point neighborhood near campus (exact location TBD) for coffee and pastries, then get to work beautifying Magnuson Park. Seattle Parks and Recreation will have all the tools and instructions we need to complete our jobs.
Wallingford Playfield Park Cleanup
Since 1998, Solid Ground’s administrative offices have been located in Wallingford. We share the first floor with FamilyWorks and The Seattle Public Library, while the top two floors house offices for administrative, case management, and advocacy staff. We’ll meet at our Wallingford offices (1501 N 45th Street, Seattle, WA 98103) for coffee and pastries, then head to the nearby Wallingford park for a cleanup. Seattle Parks and Recreation will have all the tools and instructions we need to complete our jobs.
Fremont Canal Park Cleanup
Solid Ground started in 1974 as the Fremont Public Association in response to growing economic desperation in the Fremont neighborhood. While our footprint has expanded to the greater Seattle area and King County, our connection to Fremont remains strong. We’ll meet near the Fremont Canal Park for coffee and pastries and then get to work cleaning the park. Seattle Parks and Recreation will have all the tools and instructions we need to complete our job.
Marra Farm Giving Garden Work Party
Since 1996, Solid Ground has cultivated a 3/4-acre Giving Garden on historic urban farmland at Marra Farm in the South Park neighborhood. Each year, community members, volunteers, and staff grow thousands of pounds of fresh, organic produce there. All the produce grown stays in southwest Seattle, nourishing residents via food banks, meal programs, health clinics, and other organizations. We’ll meet at the Giving Garden in the South Park neighborhood (9026 4th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98108) for coffee and pastries, then work on building soil, preparing vegetable beds, planting vegetable starts and seeds, weeding by hand, composting, watering, harvesting, and washing produce.
Solid Ground Transportation ACCESS Fleet Cleanup
Solid Ground Transportation (SGT) provides ACCESS bus services to people who can’t use Metro’s fixed-route system, helping people get to critically needed health and human services resources, and connecting people with their communities. SGT vehicles are fully accessible, equipped with lifts for loading passengers with wheelchairs and other mobility devices, and have the space to accommodate multiple passengers. Service is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. We’ll meet at the SGT Hub in the South Park neighborhood (8100 8th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98108) for coffee and pastries, then get to work cleaning our fleet of buses.
