King County veterans may be eligible for funds to support housing stability! For over 10 years, Solid Ground’s King County Housing Stability Project (HSP) has provided rental assistance to veterans and their families. In fact, in 2017, HSP helped 113 veteran households avoid eviction or move into new housing.
“I was connected to services immediately; I was able to get my rent current. The program is very accommodating in stabilizing your basic housing needs.” ~HSP recipient
HSP can provide one-time financial assistance to eligible King County households who have: 1) received an eviction notice or 2) secured permanent housing and need deposit or first month’s rent assistance. Funds are set aside specifically for veterans with any discharge status (proof of service required, e.g., DD-214 or service letter). Households must meet all eligibility criteria* to be considered, and there are a limited number of referrals available each week.
How HSP made a difference in one vet’s life…
Jane (not her real name) is an Army veteran who had been employed as a caregiver, but her client passed away a few months ago. While unemployed, Jane became ill and was unable to look for new work. During this time she fell behind on rent and was at risk of being evicted. She was recently hired for a new job but has not received a paycheck yet.
HSP provided financial assistance to help Jane get caught up on rent and out of danger of eviction. In her HSP appointment, she set goals to get more training and education to increase her employment options. The help she received from HSP was just what she needed to get back on her feet and remain stably housed.
*HSP ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:
