Kids come with their moms to our Broadview program on the heels of experiencing homelessness and often, domestic violence. Through a combination of support groups and activities, we support them to heal from traumas, spread their wings and soar.
A group of Broadview youth takes a monthly field trip to SANCA (The School of Acrobatics & New Circus Arts). They have learned about and worked out on trampolines and a variety of other gear. We caught up with them a few weeks ago to watch them fly through the air with the greatest of ease on the flying trapeze.
Well, maybe not always the greatest of ease. While SANCA’s safety lines and expert team guarantee their safety, the kids all say the first step off the platform is tough. I just climbed to the platform two stories up to take pictures, and that was enough for me!
I find the idea of these young people flying so positive and hopeful. Children’s Advocate Kayla Blau, who accompanies the young people to SANCA, says that the kids “say that they look forward to the field trip every month, and it’s so important to allow space for them to just be kids for a few hours. Thank you SANCA!”
