APPLY NOW FOR STUDENT FINANCIAL AID
WHAT: This year’s long-delayed financial aid applications are finally available. Whether you’re thinking about attending college, trade schools, job training, or apprenticeships in 2024, these applications are the first step to find out how much financial aid you may be able to get.
You should complete either the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid), depending on your personal circumstances.
- Are you a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen? Complete the FAFSA.
- Are you ineligible to complete the FAFSA due to immigration status, defaulted federal loans, or other issues with federal aid? Complete the WASFA.

STAY OUT OF THE COLD
WHEN: Wednesday, January 10, through Tuesday, January 16, 2024
WHAT: With nighttime temperatures dipping below freezing this week, the King County Regional Homelessness Authority has arranged to open additional emergency shelters and warming spaces.

FREE PET VACCINATION CLINIC
WHEN: Thursday, January 18, 2024, 10am-2pm, Rainier Beach Community Center, 8825 Rainier Ave S, Seattle, WA
WHAT: Free vaccines and other services for dogs and cats, including deworming, flea treatment, microchipping, licensing, pet food, and supplies. Please bring dogs on a leash and cats in a carrier. No registration is required to attend the clinics and interpreters will be onsite to provide assistance.
The Seattle Animal Shelter will be holding similar clinics throughout the city on the third Thursday of each month.

SEATTLE RE-OPENING APPLICATIONS FOR HOUSING VOUCHERS
WHEN: Applications open Wednesday, January 17, 2024
WHAT: The Seattle Housing Authority (SHA) is re-opening open applications to families and individuals for a chance to receive a Housing Choice Voucher (formerly known as a Section 8 voucher). The Housing Choice Voucher program provides rental assistance for people with low incomes to rent from landlords throughout the Seattle rental market.
Important note: Applying for a voucher is always free. Any website that requires a fee to apply is a scam.
Under SHA’s new process, applicants on the list will be chosen at random when vouchers are available. The number of applicants selected in each drawing will vary, depending on the number of vouchers available. The chance of being drawn is the same no matter when households apply.

HEALTH & RESOURCE FAIRS
WHAT: A variety of organizations are holding events this week to help connect people with basic needs and services, including things like cell phones, bus passes, vaccines, health care screenings, employment resources, legal assistance, and more!
Renton social services

- What: Get help with housing, mental health resources, vital sign checks, substance abuse resources and more.

- What: Free cellphones, food, healthcare resources, help with SNAP benefits, transportation services, etc.

- WHAT: Free mammograms, lunch, winter jackets, child immunizations, COVID and flu shots, blood pressure and glucose screenings, $20 ORCA bus passes, and help with health insurance enrollment.

- What: Social Service representatives are here to help you with cash assistance, employment and training, education, housing, food assistance, health/medical care, legal assistance, mental health and substance use treatment, transportation, etc.

FREE MEDICAL CARE FOR PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS
WHEN: Various times and locations – See below
WHAT: King County’s Mobile Medical Program provides walk-in care for people who are living homeless (or were recently homeless) only. Please try to arrive at least one hour before the scheduled end time for the clinic. On rare occasions the clinic will close earlier than the scheduled time. Call the Mobile Van nursing lines if you would like to confirm the clinic end time for a particular day.
Please note: Sites and available services are subject to change due to Mobile Medical’s involvement in the COVID-19 response. Please check King County’s Mobile Medical Care webpage for the latest information, including upcoming dates in September.

FREE & LOW-COST VETERINARY CARE
WHEN: Various times and locations – See below
WHAT: Seattle Veterinary Outreach and Washington Health Outreach provide veterinary care for free to people experiencing homelessness and at a reduced cost for people living on low incomes.
Veterinary care is provided on a first-come, first-served service. Pet owners are encouraged to arrive early to secure a place in line.
Services are reserved for those experiencing homelessness or living with a low income, which is verified at clinics. Pet owners should bring their SNAP, EBT, WIC, SSI, or TANF cards. Alternatively, a letter confirming that the pet owner is living in subsidized housing or receiving housing vouchers is also acceptable.

FREE COLLEGE TUITION FOR SEATTLE STUDENTS
WHEN: Applications are available now and due by Friday, February 16, 2024.
WHAT: Seattle Promise is a college tuition and success program available to all graduating Seattle public high school students regardless of grade point average (GPA), income, ability, or country of birth.
Under the Seattle Promise program, you may be eligible for:
- Free tuition at any of the Seattle Colleges: North Seattle College, Seattle Central College or South Seattle College for up to two years, 90 college credits or a student’s first degree, whichever comes first.
- Equity scholarships, which provide flexible funding to students, for books, transportation, housing, etc. for those with financial need.
- Student support and advising beginning in the junior year of high school and lasting through completion of a degree, certificate, credential or transfer to a four-year institution.
High school seniors planning to attend college in the fall of 2024 must apply to Seattle Promise and the college of their choice by February 16, 2024
