PAID PARKS DEPARTMENT INTERNSHIPS
WHEN: Applications due by April 21, 2024. Internship dates July 8 – August 15.
WHAT: Love parks and being outdoors? King County Parks Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is a PAID summer internship program for teens interested in jobs in parks and the environment. Interns work 22 hours per week and meet daily Monday through Wednesday at Bethaday Community Learning Center in White Center, and virtually via zoom on Thursdays. Internships are open to youth living in King County and entering grades 10-12. No resume or cover letter needed to apply.

WHAT: You can now pick up free Hygiene Kits in Kent at the new location of Essentials First located inside the Iraqi Community Center of Washington. Hygiene kits typically include shampoo and conditioner, bar soap, menstrual hygiene products, toothpaste & toothbrush, shaving supplies, deodorant, wipes, laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, and hand sanitizer.

FREE MEDICAL CARE FOR PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS

WHAT: King County’s Mobile Medical Program provides walk-in care for people who are living homeless (or were recently homeless) only. Please try to arrive at least one hour before the scheduled end time for the clinic. On rare occasions the clinic will close earlier than the scheduled time. Call the Mobile Van nursing lines if you would like to confirm the clinic end time for a particular day.

FREE & LOW-COST VETERINARY CARE

WHAT: Seattle Veterinary Outreach and Washington Health Outreach provide veterinary care for free to people experiencing homelessness and at a reduced cost for people living on low incomes.
Veterinary care is provided on a first-come, first-served service. Pet owners are encouraged to arrive early to secure a place in line.
Services are reserved for those experiencing homelessness or living with a low income, which is verified at clinics. Pet owners should bring their SNAP, EBT, WIC, SSI, or TANF cards. Alternatively, a letter confirming that the pet owner is living in subsidized housing or receiving housing vouchers is also acceptable.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SUMMER SCIENCE CAMPS

WHERE: Applications are now available for the Pacific Science Center’s Camps for Curious Minds Scholarship Program. This lottery-based programs offers youth in grades PreK-8 interested in science education opportunities to participate in one of PacSci’s week-long camp sessions at no cost.
Campers qualify for a scholarship if they:
- Qualified for free or reduced lunch program for the 2023-2024 school year.
- Are in the foster care system currently, or were during the 2023-2024 school year.
- OR are in the care of parent/guardian enrolled in the food assistance program (SNAP) or other public assistance programs.

PAID SUMMER INTERNSHIPS FOR SEATTLE YOUTH

WHAT: The Seattle Youth Employment Program (SYEP) supports young people (ages 16 to 24) to increase their ability to pursue careers that pay well and are meaningful to them. SYEP’s Internship Program places young people in professional and/or structured paid work settings within City departments, local businesses, and nonprofit agencies to apply their knowledge, gain hands-on experience, develop professional connections, and build their resume.
To be eligible applicants must be:
- 16-24 years old
- A resident of Seattle OR a student in Seattle Public School or Seattle Colleges
- Member of a household with income at or below 80% Area Median Income

WHAT: Get free help filing your taxes from the United Way of King County (UWKC) and AARP so you can get back more of your hard-earned money. Their IRS-certified volunteers can help you understand your tax situation, plus take advantage of credits like the Earned Income Credit, Child Tax Credit, and the Working Families Tax Credit to maximize your refund.
- UWKC: If you make less than $80,000 a year (or less than $96,000 for non-single filers), UWKC’s volunteers are ready to meet with you in person at locations across King County, including libraries, community centers, and food banks. Appointments are not required, but please aim to arrive no later than 45 minutes before closing time. Virtual Tax Assistance available starting February 1, 2024.
- AARP: The Seattle Public Library is collaborating with AARP to offer free tax assistance at nine branches through Tax Day, Monday, April 15, 2024. Hours vary and appointments are preferred in some locations.
