NEW YOUTH & FAMILY CENTER IN RAINIER VALLEY
WHERE: 7936 Rainier Ave S, Seattle, WA 98118
WHAT: Empowering Youth and Families Outreach (EYFO) has moved into a new, permanent location on Rainier Avenue South. EYFO provides a variety of programs for kids and teens, including before- and after-school programs, tutoring, college and career readiness support, and summer opportunities.
EYFO’s new location, which held its ground opening early this month, includes six classrooms, a teaching kitchen, a staff lounge, office space, two playgrounds, and an outdoor classroom space.

NEW MOBILE FOOD PANTRY STOP IN MERCER ISLAND
WHERE: Mercer Island Community and Events Center, 8236 SE 24th St, Mercer Island, WA 98040
WHEN: For upcoming times and locations, go to Hopelink Mobile Market and click on “calendar.”
WHEN: Hopelink’s Mobile Market is now stopping at Mercer Island to provide the community with fresh, locally grown produce and pantry stables like peanut butter, pastas, soups, beans, and rice. When available, there are also fresh dairy products and frozen meats.
The Mobile Market also makes stops in Redmond, Kenmore, Bellevue, Woodinville, and Bothell. For dates and locations, go to Hopelink Mobile Market and click on “calendar.” You must be enrolled in the Hopelink Food Program to shop at the mobile market or Hopelink’s other food banks.

FREE TRAINING FOR MEDICAL CAREERS
WHEN: 8-week course starts Tuesday, April 16, 2024
WHERE: In-person in North Seattle
WHAT: CareerWork$ Medical is a free job-training course that connects participants of all ages with guaranteed interviews to begin a new career in non-clinical healthcare. Over eight weeks, we provide industry knowledge, wraparound services, job search support, and networking connections to support participants excited make a career change. Career mentoring continues for a year or more after graduation to help chart a career path in healthcare.
Eligibility requirements:
- Able to attend in-person sessions in North Seattle
- 18 years or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic computer skills
- Minimum of 6 months customer service experience
- English proficient; bilingual encouraged
- Acceptance conditioned upon passing criminal background check

The FAFSA/WASFA is an important step for high school seniors to receive financial aid for college. Students eligible for the Seattle Promise scholarship must complete their FAFSA/WASFA by April 30, 2024.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU NEED TO BREAK A LEASE
WHEN: Wednesday, March 27, 2024, 5-6:30pm
WHAT: Do you need to break your lease to escape a dangerous situation? In this webinar, we’ll discuss three situations in which you may be able to break a lease without liability:
- If you’ve experienced stalking, unlawful harassment, domestic violence, or sexual assault.
- If you’ve been assaulted by another tenant who was then
- If your landlord hasn’t responded to a serious repair issue in a reasonable amount of time.
We’ll also discuss what to expect when breaking a lease in other circumstances. A visiting attorney from the Tenant Law Center will also be on hand to help with answering questions. FREE MEDICAL CARE FOR PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS
WHEN: Various times and locations listed below
WHAT: King County’s Mobile Medical Program provides walk-in care for people who are living homeless (or were recently homeless) only. Please try to arrive at least one hour before the scheduled end time for the clinic. On rare occasions the clinic will close earlier than the scheduled time. Call the Mobile Van nursing lines if you would like to confirm the clinic end time for a particular day.
Please note: Sites and available services are subject to change due to Mobile Medical’s involvement in the COVID-19 response. Please check King County’s Mobile Medical Care webpage for the latest information, including upcoming dates in September.

FREE & LOW-COST VETERINARY CARE

WHAT: Seattle Veterinary Outreach, Washington Health Outreach, and Doney Coe Pet Clinic provide veterinary care for free or at a reduced cost to the pets of people experiencing homelessness and or living on low incomes.
Veterinary care is provided on a first-come, first-served service. Pet owners are encouraged to arrive early to secure a place in line.
Services are reserved for those experiencing homelessness or living with a low income, which is verified at clinics. Pet owners should bring their SNAP, EBT, WIC, SSI, or TANF cards. Alternatively, a letter confirming that the pet owner is living in subsidized housing or receiving housing vouchers is also acceptable.

PAID PARKS DEPARTMENT INTERNSHIPS
WHEN: Applications due by April 21, 2024. Internship dates July 8 – August 15.
WHAT: Love parks and being outdoors? King County Parks Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is a PAID summer internship program for teens interested in jobs in parks and the environment. Interns work 22 hours per week and meet daily Monday through Wednesday at Bethaday Community Learning Center in White Center, and virtually via zoom on Thursdays. Internships are open to youth living in King County and entering grades 10-12. No resume or cover letter needed to apply.

MAXIMIZE YOUR REFUND: FREE HELP WITH TAXES
WHEN: Walk-in help available through Sunday, April 21, 2024. Virtual Tax Assistance available online starting Thursday, February 1, 2024.
WHERE: Locations across King County. Check out this map of United Way In-Person Tax Sites and this list of Seattle Public Library Branches offering Free In-person Tax Help.
WHAT: Get free help filing your taxes from the United Way of King County (UWKC) and AARP so you can get back more of your hard-earned money. Their IRS-certified volunteers can help you understand your tax situation, plus take advantage of credits like the Earned Income Credit, Child Tax Credit, and the Working Families Tax Credit to maximize your refund.
- UWKC: If you make less than $80,000 a year (or less than $96,000 for non-single filers), UWKC’s volunteers are ready to meet with you in person at locations across King County, including libraries, community centers, and food banks. Appointments are not required, but please aim to arrive no later than 45 minutes before closing time. Virtual Tax Assistance available starting February 1, 2024.
- AARP: The Seattle Public Library is collaborating with AARP to offer free tax assistance at nine branches through Tax Day, Monday, April 15, 2024. Hours vary and appointments are preferred in some locations.

CHANGES TO AFFORDABLE INTERNET PROGRAM
WHEN: The Affordable Connectivity Program is currently set to wind down in May.
WHAT: More than 77,000 households in King County and 344,000 in Washington State could see their internet bills go up in May when the federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) runs out of money.
Households have options for continuing service and switching plans, but must communicate with their internet provider to choose and confirm a continuing internet service plan and costs when the discount ends…or to ensure they end their service plan with a company if they want to.
