Food banks are great when you’re having trouble getting enough food for your family, but waiting in line and cooking a meal takes time that many of us don’t have. That’s why the University District Food Bank has launched a really cool new initiative to help people get warm, ready-to-eat meals and beverages when they need them. It’s called the Apple A Day Café and it’s located right next to the food bank on Roosevelt Way. WHAT: The University District Food Bank has opened a new FREE restaurant next door called the Apple A Day Cafe. This new space offers hot, nutritious meals and beverages to anyone who needs them.
The Apple A Day Cafe is meant to serve food bank customers who have an immediate need for food or who don’t have the time or space to cook groceries available at the food bank.

FREE TRAINING FOR HEALTHCARE JOBS

FREE TRAINING FOR IT JOBS

WHAT: Begin your IT Support career learning the fundamentals through hands-on instruction covering core concepts and technologies. Earn the CompTIA A+ certification and the Google IT Support Professional Certificate. Seats are offered on first come, first served basis.

PAID PARKS DEPARTMENT INTERNSHIPS
WHEN: Applications due by Sunday, April 21, 2024. Internship dates July 8 – August 15.
WHAT: Love parks and being outdoors? King County Parks Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is a PAID summer internship program for teens interested in jobs in parks and the environment. Interns work 22 hours per week and meet daily Monday through Wednesday at Bethaday Community Learning Center in White Center, and virtually via zoom on Thursdays. Internships are open to youth living in King County and entering grades 10-12. No resume or cover letter needed to apply.

HOW TO GET YOUR LANDLORD TO MAKE REPAIRS
WHEN: Wednesday, April 24, 2024, 5-6:30pm
WHAT: Do you need repairs in your rental and don’t know if you or your landlord are responsible for fixing them? What exactly are your rights as a tenant – and what are the landlord’s duties? Learn how to request repairs, and find out what the landlord’s duties are under the Washington state’s Residential Landlord-Tenant Act.
A visiting attorney from the Tenant Law Center will also be on hand to help with answering questions. If you’re currently living in King County and being threatened with eviction, contact the Housing Justice Project for legal assistance at 206.267.7069 or hjpstaff@kcba.org.

FREE MEDICAL CARE FOR PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS
WHEN: Various times and locations listed below
WHAT: King County’s Mobile Medical Program provides walk-in care for people who are living homeless (or were recently homeless) only. Please try to arrive at least one hour before the scheduled end time for the clinic. On rare occasions the clinic will close earlier than the scheduled time. Call the Mobile Van nursing lines if you would like to confirm the clinic end time for a particular day.

FREE & LOW-COST VETERINARY CARE

WHAT: Seattle Veterinary Outreach, Washington Health Outreach, and Doney Coe Pet Clinic provide veterinary care for free or at a reduced cost to the pets of people experiencing homelessness and or living on low incomes.
Veterinary care is provided on a first-come, first-served service. Pet owners are encouraged to arrive early to secure a place in line.
Services are reserved for those experiencing homelessness or living with a low income, which is verified at clinics. Pet owners should bring their SNAP, EBT, WIC, SSI, or TANF cards. Alternatively, a letter confirming that the pet owner is living in subsidized housing or receiving housing vouchers is also acceptable.
