~NEW THIS EDITION~

WIC NOW ACCEPTED FOR WALMART WEBSITE, APP  

WHEN: Through December 31, 2025 

WHAT: Washington state families enrolled in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program can now use their benefits to order WIC-approved foods online from Walmart stores in Washington.  

After adding their WIC card to their free Walmart account at www.walmart.com/WIC or through the Walmart mobile app, Washington WIC participants can shop for WIC-approved items, which are also called out on the site for ease, such as infant formula, eggs, and fruits and vegetables. The pilot program with Walmart also provides WIC participants with better options for finding items that may be out of stock locally but can be shipped from another store.

ALL CARE-A-VAN CLINCS CANCELLED 

WHEN: As of March 24, 2025 

WHAT: A mobile health clinic that had served communities across Washington state was abruptly shut down last month due to cuts in federal funding, forcing the state to cancel more than a hundred upcoming clinics. Care-a-Van Mobile Health Services had previously provided vaccines, blood pressure and glucose screenings, naloxone distribution, and referrals to community health and social service partners.

UW SPRING JOB & INTERNSHIP FAIR  

WHEN: Tuesday, April 8, 2025, 11:30am-2:30pm

HELP WITH COURT PAYMENTS 

WHEN: Wednesday, April 16, 2025, 10am-12pm 

WHERE: Online or in-person at 2024 3rd Ave, Seattle, WA 98121 

WHAT: Are you struggling to pay money you owe the court? With this workshop, you’ learn how to petition for relief from fines and fees owed in a felony case, known as “legal financial obligations” (LFOs). The workshop will include a brief educational segment on your rights for waiving or reducing LFOs in Washington state and then a clinic portion where participants can work with a legal navigator to prepare their petitions for relief.

FREE OVERDOSE PREVENTION TRAINING 

WHERE: Capitol Hill Library Branch, Meeting Room, 425 Harvard Ave. E., Seattle, WA 98102 

WHEN: Saturday, May 10, 2025, 12-1pm 

WHAT: Knowing how to respond when someone has overdosed can save a life. Whether you’ve experienced substance use personally, have loved ones who are at risk, or just want to be prepared, this training will empower you with knowledge and confidence to act in a crisis. Participants will receive a free goodie bag with naloxone (Narcan) and test strips.

DEADLINE REMINDER: FREE TAX HELP 

WHEN: Tax returns due Tuesday, April 15, 2025 

WHAT: If you make less than $80,000 a year (or less than $96,000 for non-single filers), the United Way of King County is available to do your taxes for FREE so you can get back more of your hard-earned money. Volunteers help you understand your tax situation, plus take advantage of credits like the Earned Income Credit, Child Tax Credit, and the Working Families Tax Credit to maximize your refund.  

There are three ways to get FREE tax help: 

  • In-Person Assistance: Check out the tax site map below to find a tax site that’s most convenient for you. All tax sites are first come, first serve. No appointments necessary! 
  • Virtual Tax Assistance: Interested in filing your taxes virtually but don’t feel comfortable doing it on your own? We’re happy to help! 
  • File Your Own Taxes For Free: Feeling good about filing your own taxes but want to do it for free, without any hidden fees? We’ve got you.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS AS AN IMMIGRANT

WHEN: Tuesday, April 8, 2025, 9-11am 

WHERE: Online 

WHAT: Join the Northwest Immigrants Right Project and the Seattle/King County Coalition on Homelessness for a training on what to do if Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) comes to your home or workplace. This training will cover: 

  • Basic Overview of the Immigration System 
  • What we know about the new Administration’s policies 
  • Know Your Rights 
  • Safety Planning 
  • Referrals and Questions 

Make sure to register even if you can’t attend – we will share a recording after the training.

LEARN ABOUT RENTAL FEES AND DEPOSITS

WHEN: Wednesday, April 9, 2025, 3-4:45pm

WHAT: Have you ever been charged a fee by your landlord and don’t know why? Or have you vacated a rental and didn’t get your deposit back? Join us to discuss…

  • Which fees landlords can impose on tenants.
  • Which fees are illegal.
  • Deposits when applying for a new rental.
  • How to go about getting your deposit back when you move out.

FREE LEGAL HELP 

WHEN: Wednesday, April 9, 2024, 4-8pm (intake 4-6pm) 

WHERE: El Centro de la Raza, Historic Building, Top Floor, 2524 16th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98144 

WHAT: Volunteer attorneys from the Latina/o Bar Association of Washington (LBAW) and the community, along with volunteer interpreters, provide free 30-minute consultations on topics such as immigration, personal injury, worker’s rights, family law, and more. Availability depends on attorney expertise at each clinic. 

Space is limited. Consultations are first-come, first-served in-person, and there’s no guarantee of being seen due to high demand and specific legal matters.

WHAT: A variety of organizations are holding events this week to help connect people with basic needs and services, including things like cell phones, bus passes, vaccines, health care screenings, employment resources, legal assistance, and more!

  • What: Social service providers will help connect you to resources such as healthcare, education, recovery haircuts and more. Get help with a free phone and ORCA card. Hygiene kits and free lunches available, while supplies last.

FREE & LOW-COST VETERINARY CARE

WHEN: Various dates and times. See below.

WHAT: Seattle Veterinary Outreach, Washington Health Outreach, and Doney Coe Pet Clinic provide veterinary care for free or at a reduced cost to the pets of people experiencing homelessness and or living on low incomes.

Veterinary care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Pet owners are encouraged to arrive early to secure a place in line.

Services are reserved for those experiencing homelessness or living with a low income, which is verified at clinics. Pet owners should bring their SNAP, EBT, WIC, SSI, or TANF cards. Alternatively, a letter confirming that the pet owner is living in subsidized housing or receiving housing vouchers is also acceptable.

FREE & LOW-COST SEATTLE PARKS EVENTS 

WHEN: April-June 2025 

WHAT: Seattle Parks & Recreation has put together a list of free and low-cost events at community centers across the city this spring and summer. Offerings range from a Mother’s Day clothing swap at Garfield Community Center to a painting and ice cream night at Rainier Beach Community Center.

CENTRAL DISTRICT HEALTH & RESOURCE FAIR 

WHEN: Saturday, April 12, 2025, 10:30am-2:30pm 

WHERE: Northwest African American Museum, 2300 S Massachusetts St, Seattle, WA 98144

WHAT: Grab your family, neighbors, and friends and experience a day at the Northwest African American Museum dedicated to community health. The museum will be hosting a free community resource fair offering help with vaccines, health screenings, health insurance enrollment, transit passes, and more. For free mammograms and car seats, please call 1.800.756.5437 ahead of time to make an appointment.  Attendees also take advantage of a free meal, free admission to the museum, free book readings, and a chance to shop a collection of Black businesses.

FREE MEDICAL, DENTAL, & VISION CARE 

WHEN: April 24 – 27, 2025 

WHAT: The Seattle Center will host its annual four-day FREE Seattle/King County Clinic on April 24-27 this year, offering medical, dental, and vision care for anyone who needs it – no insurance, ID, or proof of residency required. Available services include: 

  • Dental: Treatment for pain or discomfort, known or suspected cavities, swollen gums, and broken teeth.
  • Vision: Vision screening, complete eye exams, prescription eyeglasses.
  • Medical: Primary care, x-rays, mammograms, ultrasounds, select lab tests, immunizations, foot care, dermatology, physical and occupational (hand, wrist, elbow) therapy, acupuncture, nutrition, behavioral health, and more.

FEDERAL STUDENT AID APPLICATIONS NOW ACCEPTED

WHEN: Applications due June 30, 2025

WHAT: The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open for all students and families applying for the 2025–2026 school year. While the final FAFSA deadline isn’t until June 30, 2025, students should apply as early as possible because some kinds of financial support are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Completing the FAFSA takes about an hour.
