First, there’s a big job fair this Friday at the Seattle Center with representatives from pretty much every trade. And if you’re looking to get some training before looking for work, ANEW has two training programs starting up later this month that’ll get you the experience you need. WOMEN IN TRADES FAIR
WHEN: Friday, May 3, 2024, 9am-2pm

WHAT: The Women in Trades Fair is a fun opportunity to learn about living-wage/lucrative careers in the construction trades. Exhibitors represent almost every craft imaginable, from carpentry to sheet metal, electrical linework to elevator construction, ironwork to masonry, firefighting to meat cutting.
This a FREE event open to everyone. No need to register: Just show up with your notebook full of questions!

FREE TRADE & CONSTRUCTION TRAINING
WHEN: New programs start Monday, May 6, 2024, and Wednesday, May 15, 2024
WHERE: ANEW training facility, 18338 Andover Park W, Tukwila, WA 98188
WHAT: ANEW offers free high-quality, pre-apprenticeship training programs that help people obtain careers in construction trades. ANEW graduates receive direct or preferred entry into a construction apprenticeship program, and receive placement assistance and retention services for two years. Construction experience not required.
Two training courses are about to start and are still accepting applicants:
- Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Education (PACE): 12-week training for all gender identities from May 15 to August 2, meeting in-person Wednesday-Friday, 6:30am-3pm.
- Trades Rotation Program (TRP): 8-week training for people who identify as women from May 6 to July 2, meeting in-person Monday through Thursday, 6:30am-3pm.

FREE PLAY & LEARN SESSIONS FOR PARENTS & KIDS

FREE MEDICAL CARE FOR PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS
WHEN: Various times and locations listed below
WHAT: King County’s Mobile Medical Program provides walk-in care for people who are living homeless (or were recently homeless) only. Please try to arrive at least one hour before the scheduled end time for the clinic. On rare occasions the clinic will close earlier than the scheduled time. Call the Mobile Van nursing lines if you would like to confirm the clinic end time for a particular day.
Please note: Sites and available services are subject to change due to Mobile Medical’s involvement in the COVID-19 response. Please check King County’s Mobile Medical Care webpage for the latest information, including upcoming dates in September.

FREE & LOW-COST VETERINARY CARE

WHAT: Seattle Veterinary Outreach, Washington Health Outreach, and Doney Coe Pet Clinic provide veterinary care for free or at a reduced cost to the pets of people experiencing homelessness and or living on low incomes.
Veterinary care is provided on a first-come, first-served service. Pet owners are encouraged to arrive early to secure a place in line.
Services are reserved for those experiencing homelessness or living with a low income, which is verified at clinics. Pet owners should bring their SNAP, EBT, WIC, SSI, or TANF cards. Alternatively, a letter confirming that the pet owner is living in subsidized housing or receiving housing vouchers is also acceptable.

FREE FRUITS & VEGETABLES FOR SENIORS
WHEN: Applications accepted now through May 24, 2024
WHAT: With the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP), eligible King County seniors can receive $80 to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables at participating farmers markets and roadside stands. The money is loaded on a benefits card that is mailed out in July. To be eligible for the program, seniors must meet certain age and income requirements.
Not a senior? You can also get extra fruits and vegetables at eligible farmers market vendors using your WIC or SNAP benefits:
