~NEW THIS EDITION~

FREE AMTRAK TICKETS FOR TEENS & KIDS 

WHERE: All Amtrak Cascades trips that begin and end in Washington State. 

WHAT: Young people 18 and under can now ride FREE on Amtrak Cascades trains between any of 12 train stations between Bellingham and Vancouver, Washington. 

To be eligible for the free fare, all children under 16 years old must be traveling with an adult. Free youth tickets must be acquired in advance and are available at www.Amtrak.com, by calling 1.800.USA.RAIL, or from an Amtrak ticket agent at staffed stations.

NEW RAINIER BEACH MOBILE FOOD PANTRY 

WHEN:  Fridays, 10am-12pm 

WHERE: Paradise Baptist Church, 4353 S Henderson St, Seattle, WA 98118
 
WHAT: The Rainier Valley Food Bank’s Grocery Mobile Market is now making weekly stops at Paradise Baptist Church in Rainier Beach. Stop by from 10am to 12pm on Fridays for free fruits and vegetables, meat, canned and dry goods, and more!  

People from all neighborhoods are welcome to shop at the Grocery Mobile Market! Bringing a piece of mail or ID can be helpful but is not required. 

The Grocery Mobile Market is also available at Rainier Beach Library, 9125 Rainier Ave S, Seattle, WA 98118, on Wednesdays from 9am to 11am.  

RESOURCE FAIR FOR SURVIVORS OF GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE 

WHEN: Friday, May 31, 2024, 12-4pm 

WHERE: Alvirita Little Center, 708 MLK Jr Way, Seattle, WA 98122

WHAT: Stop by the Alvirita Little Center for help with hygiene supplies, clothing, recovery services, mental health, housing, employment, legal support, and more.

HOW TO SEARCH FOR AN APARTMENT

WHEN: Tuesday, June 4, 2024, 1-3:45pm

WHAT: Join Solid Ground Tenant Counselors to discuss housing search basics. We’ll focus on:

  • Where to search for housing
  • Tenant screening information
  • Best tips for finding a rental
  • Tax-credit housing
  • Holding deposits when applying for rentals
  • Overcoming rental barriers such as criminal history and past evictions

A visiting attorney from the Tenant Law Center will also be on hand to help with answering questions. If you’re currently living in King County and being threatened with eviction, contact the Housing Justice Project for legal assistance at 206.267.7069 or hjpstaff@kcba.org.

SUMMER JOBS & INTERNSHIPS FOR YOUTH 

WHEN: Wednesday, June 5, 2024, 3-5pm 

WHERE: Steve Cox Memorial Park, 1321 SW 102nd St, Seattle, WA 98146

WHAT: Stop by the 2024 Peace in the Hood Job Fair to connect with employers looking to hire young people for summer jobs and internships. More than two dozen employers will be on hand. 

In addition to the job fair, the annual PNTH 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament for ages 12 – 18 will be held on the outdoor courts at Steve Cox Memorial Park. Signups open at 3pm, and games start at 4pm.

HELP UNDERSTANDING MEDICARE OPTIONS 

WHEN: Wednesday, May 29, 2024, 5:30-7:30pm

WHAT: Learn about all the parts of Medicare so you can make an informed decision about your Medicare choices. We’ll discuss… 

  • Medicare A, B, C, and D 
  • Enrollment 
  • Medicare benefits and options 
  • Medigaps (supplemental plans) and Medicare Advantage plans 
  • Help paying for Medicare 
  • Medicare fraud 

This event will be presented by Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) Program volunteers. SHIBA provides free, unbiased, and confidential assistance with Medicare health care choices.

  • What: Social Service representatives are here to help you with cash assistance, employment and training, education, housing, food assistance, health/medical care, legal assistance, mental health and substance use treatment, transportation, etc.

FREE MEDICAL CARE FOR PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS 

WHEN: Various times and locations listed below

WHAT: King County’s Mobile Medical Program provides walk-in care for people who are living homeless (or were recently homeless) only. Please try to arrive at least one hour before the scheduled end time for the clinic. On rare occasions the clinic will close earlier than the scheduled time. Call the Mobile Van nursing lines if you would like to confirm the clinic end time for a particular day.

Please note: Sites and available services are subject to change due to Mobile Medical’s involvement in the COVID-19 response. Please check King County’s Mobile Medical Care webpage for the latest information, including upcoming dates in September.

FREE & LOW-COST VETERINARY CARE

WHEN: Various dates and times. See below.

WHAT: Seattle Veterinary Outreach, Washington Health Outreach, and Doney Coe Pet Clinic provide veterinary care for free or at a reduced cost to the pets of people experiencing homelessness and or living on low incomes.

Veterinary care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Pet owners are encouraged to arrive early to secure a place in line.

Services are reserved for those experiencing homelessness or living with a low income, which is verified at clinics. Pet owners should bring their SNAP, EBT, WIC, SSI, or TANF cards. Alternatively, a letter confirming that the pet owner is living in subsidized housing or receiving housing vouchers is also acceptable.

FREE AIR CONDITIONING UNITS 

WHAT: You may be able to get a free A/C unit this summer thanks to Byrd Barr’s Energy Assistance programs. To qualify, you must first be approved for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). 

You may also be able to get help paying energy bills, refilling oil tanks, and repairing or replacing furnaces.

HELP KEEPING KIDS FED THIS SUMMER 

WHEN: New SUN Bucks cards will be mailed starting in June. Applications accepted through August 31, 2024. 

WHAT: Washington parents may be able to get a little extra help keeping their kids fed this summer thanks to a new program called SUN Bucks. 

Under the program, parents will receive $120 per eligible child to spend on food. The money will be loaded onto SUN Bucks cards that will be mailed out starting in June. SUN Bucks are separate from Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or any other food benefits you may receive.  

Some children will automatically be enrolled in SUN Bucks and others will need to apply. Applications will be accepted through August 31, 2024.

FREE SOUL FOOD IN SEATTLE’S CENTRAL DISTRICT

WHAT: Dope Culture LLC is partnering with local restaurants and organizations to provide free soul food meals once a month through August 2024. All are welcome and none are turned away!

FREE LEGAL HELP 

WHEN: Wednesday, June 12, 2024. Registration: 4-6pm. Attorney consultations: 6-8pm.

WHAT: This free legal clinic offers pro bono legal aid that can level the playing field for individuals who cannot afford professional legal consultations. Help available on a first-come, first-served basis.
