Fortunately, there are places across Seattle and King County where kids can get free meals every weekday through the end of the summer. No registration or paperwork required – just have them stop by and get something to eat! Read on to find a Free Summer Meals site near you, plus help with stolen EBT benefits, evictions, and more!

FREE SUMMER MEALS FOR KIDS
WHEN: Starting Monday, July 1, 2024
WHERE: Sites across King County. To find one near you, go to Summer Meals Site Finder 2024. You can also text FOOD to 304.304.
WHAT: Free Summer Meals are offered at the places where your family lives, learns and plays – including schools, parks, community centers and faith-based organizations.
These programs are open to all families and don’t ask for any paperwork – kids can just drop in and grab a meal. Many sites also offer fun activities that help kids stay active and engaged when school is out.

GET STOLEN BENEFITS BACK
WHEN: Starting Monday, July 1, 2024
WHAT: People whose cash benefits were stolen through EBT card skimming or other similar, fraudulent activity will soon be able to submit a claim to the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) to have some of those benefits replaced. This includes Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), State Family Assistance, Refugee Cash Assistance, Aged, Blind or Disabled (ABD) cash assistance, and Pregnant Women Assistance benefits stolen on or after July 1, 2024. Benefits stolen before that date are not covered.
Customers who are the head of household and believe they are victims of cash-benefit theft, despite having their EBT card in their possession, may request to have these benefits replaced within 30 days of discovering the loss by:
- Submitting a claim in person in a Community Services Office during business hours. See the Office Locator to find a location near you.
- Calling the Customer Service Contact Center at 877.501.2233.
- Completing a signed “DSHS Claim of Stolen EBT Benefits” form and submitting it:
- By mail to P.O. Box 11699, Tacoma, WA 98411.
- By fax to 888.338.7140.
- By dropbox at a local DSHS office.
- Through MyDocs email.

WHEN: Wednesday, June 26, 2024, 5-6:30pm
WHAT: Are you being threatened with eviction by your landlord or property manager? Join Solid Ground Tenant Counselors and legal advisors to get information and insight on tenants’ rights under the Washington State Residential Landlord-Tenant Act. We’ll answer these questions and more…

- How can I terminate my lease?

FREE MEDICAL CARE FOR PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS
WHEN: Various times and locations listed below
WHAT: King County’s Mobile Medical Program provides walk-in care for people who are living homeless (or were recently homeless) only. Please try to arrive at least one hour before the scheduled end time for the clinic. On rare occasions the clinic will close earlier than the scheduled time. Call the Mobile Van nursing lines if you would like to confirm the clinic end time for a particular day.
Please note: Sites and available services are subject to change due to Mobile Medical’s involvement in the COVID-19 response. Please check King County’s Mobile Medical Care webpage for the latest information, including upcoming dates in September.

FREE & LOW-COST VETERINARY CARE
WHEN: Various dates and times. See below.
WHAT: Seattle Veterinary Outreach, Washington Health Outreach, and Doney Coe Pet Clinic provide veterinary care for free or at a reduced cost to the pets of people experiencing homelessness and or living on low incomes.
Veterinary care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Pet owners are encouraged to arrive early to secure a place in line.
Services are reserved for those experiencing homelessness or living with a low income, which is verified at clinics. Pet owners should bring their SNAP, EBT, WIC, SSI, or TANF cards. Alternatively, a letter confirming that the pet owner is living in subsidized housing or receiving housing vouchers is also acceptable.

FREE AIR CONDITIONING UNITS
WHAT: You may be able to get a free A/C unit this summer thanks to Byrd Barr’s Energy Assistance programs. To qualify, you must first be approved for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
You may also be able to get help paying energy bills, refilling oil tanks, and repairing or replacing furnaces.

HELP KEEPING KIDS FED THIS SUMMER
WHEN: New SUN Bucks cards will be mailed starting in June. Applications accepted through August 31, 2024.
WHAT: Washington parents may be able to get a little extra help keeping their kids fed this summer thanks to a new program called SUN Bucks.
Under the program, parents will receive $120 per eligible child to spend on food. The money will be loaded onto SUN Bucks cards that will be mailed out starting in June. SUN Bucks are separate from Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or any other food benefits you may receive.
Some children will automatically be enrolled in SUN Bucks and others will need to apply. Applications will be accepted through August 31, 2024.
