Solid Ground’s cooking and nutrition programs simply couldn’t operate the way they do without Charlie’s Produce, which specializes in providing local, high-quality produce in the Pacific NW region and beyond.
For 15 years, Charlie’s Produce has donated the healthy, fresh produce needed for our Seattle-area Cooking Matters classes. Through weekly in-kind donations, they supply all of the fruits and veggies used for in-class demonstrations of healthy recipes – but that’s not all. After each class, every participant or family also receives a bag of produce to take home to try out what they’ve learned. In 2016 alone, this added up to nearly $10,000-worth of healthy food!
“We support Solid Ground because we believe fresh food should be available to everyone – and we know their Cooking Matters program teaches valuable tools to adults and young families in need, says Laura Severance, Executive Assistant.
Charlie’s believes there is a clear connection between the health and profitability of a company and the general wellbeing of the community in which it does business. “Charlie’s Produce has a history and commitment to helping those in need,” Laura adds. “We are dedicated to being a leader in supporting charitable organizations and services that benefit our community and our state.”
This spring, they also began providing produce for Solid Ground’s Nutrition Education in Schools. Additionally, Charlie’s Produce has a long history of sponsorship for major Solid Ground events supporting our food and nutrition programs.
Thank you, Charlie’s Produce, for helping to instill healthy eating habits that nourish our community!
